Community & Economic Development Department 

The Community and Economic Development department handles various grants & activities within the city.
Below you will find a list of the various grants and activities: 

Community Development Block Grant Program

The City of Sharon is an entitlement CDBG municipality, which means Housing and Urban Development (HUD)
provides an annual allocation. Funding from this source supports all administrative components of the Community Development Department.
During FY 2019, the following City projects will be supported through this funding source:

  • Public Facility Improvements (including Wengler Park, and street repairs)
  • Zone 4 Police Officer
  • Code Officer
  • Shenango Valley Shuttle
  • Microenterprise Technical Assistance
  • Demolition and Clearance Activities
  • Housing Rehabilitation Specialist
  • Housing Rehabilitation Program

Blight Study Strategy

The City will engage a consultant to develop a blight strategy including demolition, rehabilitation, repurposing and reuse.

Green Light Go Year 4

The city of Sharon will modernize the large intersection of three arteries within the city: S. Sharpsville Ave., E. Connelly Blvd. (US-62) and Shenango Valley Fwy., with an emphasis on pedestrian safety and accessibility.A complete replacement of the traffic signal will include pedestrian signals, ADA ramps and right-of-way, as well as updated poles, signals and signage.

Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program: Wengler Park

Wengler Park Improvements will enhance a neighborhood park by providing green scaping improvements to the park primarily serving LMI individuals.

Keystone Communities Program

The Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development recognizes the impact of the Main Street America TM program and prioritizes grants funds to designated communities. To become a designated community, through a public/private partnership, Sharon must create a five-year action strategy and identify funding streams to support programming and full-time downtown manager.
The purpose of the current Keystone Communities Program grant is to develop the strategy and future funding streams.

STU 2018

Intersection improvements and gateway treatments on US 62 and the intersection of Addison Avenue, at the state line between Ohio and Pennsylvania will begin in late 2019, early 2020.
